Life and Lessons: Big Apple Edition
What I have learned after living in New York City for a month
If you didn’t already know, we moved! We got married, and 4 days later we boarded a plane and landed in JFK. It still does not feel real, it just feels like we are working in a different state, but that could be due to our apartment nightmares! Regardless, here is a list of all the things I have learned since living in New York City with little to no explanation.
Do NOT make eye contact, with anyone, at any time.
Pay attention to subway signs, and make sure you’re standing on the right platform, for example, the downtown platform is completely different than uptown… something this AZ girl failed to realize on my first day of work.
You will get lost on the subway, don’t panic, just get off at the next stop and get back on going in the right direction.
Bring a tote/ reusable bag with you, just in case, you never know when you’ll find a gem/ need to stop into the grocery.
Document everything.
Wash your hands as often as possible- you will get sick regardless though so just accept it.
Do not wear your street shoes into your house, or your subway clothes on the couch/ bed!!!
Advocate for yourself. Don’t back down if something doesn’t sit right with you.
Accessories are everything!
Layers, layers, layers.
Our New York City chapter has truly just started and I can’t wait to see where it takes us! We will soon be moving into our new apartment in Greenpoint and I can’t wait to finally be settled into our own place after being in limbo for so long.
